Where can you have fun and ride your dirt bike legally?
Where can you ride your dirt bike and have that buzz without breaking the law?
On your own private property.
If you are lucky enough to have your own estate then you are very fortunate! If you know someone that can give you permission to use their private land, then enjoy that private space, however consider any neighbouring properties to ensure that you are welcomed back.
On a dedicated dirt bike trail.
In the United Kingdom we are well served with dirt bike trails, with over thirty trails to choose from. You can find a few from HERE on Trail Source or the TRF also have a local group near you, you can find them HERE
Can I ride my bike on a beach?
This depends...some rules will vary from place to place, so it is best to pre-plan. Some beaches will allow you to drive your vehicle, however this may be restricted to certain times of the year and may come with further restrictions, i.e. you may need to be insured and have a road legal vehicle rather than an ATV. Therefore it would be best to contact your local council and get permission and understand what restrictions are in place.
What are green lanes?
Green lanes are literally roads that have not been installed with tarmac or other hard covering. These are a great way to do some low difficulty lanes with ease. The bike and rider, however, will need to be legally compliant. The bike will need to be fully road registered, insured, taxed and have a MOT. Highway rules will apply on green lanes as they are still a public road. Also use your OS Map to identify green lanes near you and look for Byways that are open to all traffic, then check for any seasonal restrictions or even bike specific restrictions.
Above all… go out and enjoy your ride!
