If you’ve grown up quad biking and your child has suddenly expressed an interest, what joy you must be feeling. However now that you are a parent, ensuring your child rides his/her quad bike safely is paramount.
There are a few essentials to consider when your child rides a quad bike. Follow our quick guide!
- As your main are of concern is safety, a helmet and body padding would be highly recommended.
- Ensure your childs clothing is loose without restrictive movement and his/her footwear is suitable, e.g. no sandles or flip flops are worn. These can easily come off or get caught. Footwear with a grip would be preferable.
- It may also be a good idea to ensure your child has waterproof clothing. A sudden downpour or ride through a large puddle will ensure your child’s ride isn’t cut short.
- Ensure the quad bike is specifically designed for children. Quad bikes for children are smaller and lighter than adult quad bikes.
- Supervision is essential when your child is quad bike riding. As with all machinery, children should not be left alone and by ensuring your child keeps to the path you have designated, will keep everyone (including bystanders) safe and happy.
- It is advisable to only have one child on the quad bike at any one time.
- When trying to find a location for your child to ride his/her quad bike, it’s best to find a specifically designated quad bike track for kids (out of the way of quad bike riding adults). If in this instance you can’t find a track, your garden, or a safe area where you have permission for your child to ride his/her quad bike, may be utilised.
- Before your child rides his/her quad bike, ensure all brakes, mechanics and tyres are all in good working order.
